Well, it looks like another year is finishing and a new one is starting. 2018 was without a doubt a busy year personally and although Retro Freak Reviews has grown in both quality and views, I confess I didn’t post as many reviews as in 2017. But I still think the reviews I posted this year were without a doubt better.
Well, it’s that time of the year again. Yuletide, Hanukkah (although that ended past December 10th, I think), Kwanzaa, Saturnalia, St. Nicholas Day, or more commonly known as Christmas, the Winter Solstice celebration is one of the most celebrated holidays of the year. And here in Retro Freak Reviews, we decided to review a game based on a movie whose plot just happened to occur during Christmas (which makes it a Christmas-themed game in my book). I’m talking about Home Alone for DOS.
Welcome one and welcome all to the 2nd anniversary of Retro Freak Reviews! It’s hard to believe that 2 years have already passed since I started rumbling about retro computer games. And to celebrate such a magnanimous occasion, let’s take a look at one of the best graphic adventures ever made (and a personal favourite): The Secret of Monkey Island.
For those who had the privilege to experience video games during the 80s and 90s (like yours truly), you probably noticed that the period between the late 80s and early 90s was probably the most prolific in terms of novelties.
Basically, developers back then threw every idea they had at the wall to see what stuck and what not. In other words, they weren’t afraid to experiment with new ideas and concepts, and creativity was the most valuable asset when creating new games. And sometimes, they came up with some interesting games like the one we’re about to review. I’m talking about Manhunter: New York.
Well, it’s Halloween! So, ghosts, goblins and other things that go bump in the night, today we’re going to take a look at the sequel of my very 1st horror-themed review, The 7th Guest. I’m talking about The 11th Hour.
Last week, we reviewed a futuristic sports game and today we’re going to review a futuristic racing game. Yup, you can’t tell me I don’t have a lot of variety in my reviews! Anyway, today’s subject is Space Racer.
One of the most famous developer studios from the late 80s and early 90s was The Bitmap Brothers. If you had a Commodore Amiga, you know what I’m talking about. The Bitmap Brothers are one of those studios that started small but valued quality over quantity which resulted in fantastic games and rockstar fame among video game companies. Perhaps one day I’ll write a retrospective about them. But today, we’re going to take a look at one of their earliest games: Speedball.
